Is there no concern about working conditions in Amazon warehouses or dominant relationships with smaller publishers?
Where else could their lower prices come from?

Carleton does have a prime account. It is set up under the name and email of the Acquisitions Manager.

If you are non-profit, you can have the account be tax exempt. There are just a few forms you have to submit. That is why it is important to set up the account under a work email so you don't confuse it with your personal account.

Amazon Prime lets you add a few "relatives" to the account. The only benefit to them is the free two-day shipping. They each need to set up their accounts as tax exempt also since the point is they should also be purchasing for the College (for purchasing supplies, etc.). We have had this account for several years. It was easy to switch the name/email on the account when the previous Acquisitions Manager retired. It has worked very well for us.

A nearby institution was talked into switching from an individual prime account to the business account. I was warned not to switch as it as been a real headache for them.

Elizabeth,

Two of us in Acquisitions have Prime memberships. We use University credit cards to make purchases. We spend $198 on the memberships and save over $3,000 per year on average.

We've had Amazon Prime membership for the library account since February 2005 (it was $79/yr for several years and the price has gone up to now $99/yr). Anyway, I'd say it's probably the best $79/$99 we invested annually with our budget. Amazon automatically charge our credit card for Prime renewal on the anniversary day. You can set up a reminder three days in advance before they charge your card if you'd like. It's definitely something we can't do without these days for fulfilling rush and media orders.

Best,
Dung-Lan

Otterbein University in Ohio uses Prime; we used a credit card to set it up and it saves quite a lot of money and time.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth

We have had our library set up with an Amazon Prime account for about two months now. The yearly fee is $99 and this has saved us large amounts of money and time! The setup is simple; you receive a free one month trial and if you do not cancel, you are charged $99 and the Prime membership officially begins. Here are instructions for set up: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200444170

We also have an Amazon Business account, which has also been helpful: http://www.amazon.com/b?node=11261610011&ref_=b2b_reg_mc_s24

Subject: [ACQNET-L] Academic libraries using Amazon Prime?

Hello,

Are there any academic libraries using Amazon Prime? We're curious about how you got that set up.

Thanks,

~Elizabeth
