Hi Elizabeth,
Our acquisitions department (three staff members) shares a Prime membership with the library's administrative services coordinator. We have a dedicated e-mail address and login password for the membership. The respective credit-card data and billing/shipping addresses for each of us are set up under "Your Account." I monitor the e-mails and forward them to the proper person. It works very well - we get items quickly and save a lot on shipping.

Hi Elizabeth,
We have been using Amazon Prime at the Harvard Law School Library for about 9 years now. I called them beforehand to make sure that they didn’t have a problem with an institution using Prime instead of a corporate account and they were fine with it. Our researchers often need books ASAP, so the free 2-day shipping and reduced price overnight shipping that comes with Prime saves us a huge amount of money.

Texas A&M University-Central Texas is also using Amazon Prime. I use my regular P-card and pay the $99 Prime fee each year, but then save a tremendous amount on shipping, as well as faster shipping. I also have a business account with Amazon, which allows me to use PO numbers. Invoicing it still a nightmare, as one order is broken up and shipped out (and shows up in my credit card statement) separately. Reconciling my credit card each month is extremely time consuming because of the way Amazon charges my credit card, so I only use Amazon for books I can’t get through my book jobber or books that I need to rush through, as well as almost all motion pictures.

Hi Elizabeth,
We are Amazon Prime customers and used our institutional credit card to set it up. You save quite a bit on shipping & handling over the long-term if items are ordered directly from Amazon. The $3.99 in S&H charge still comes into play if you purchase it through an Amazon Marketplace vendor.
Best,

The Wisconsin State Law Library has an Amazon Corporate account rather than a Prime membership. We do not have a credit card we can use for online purchases so the corporate account lets us order online, gets us free shipping, and we receive a monthly statement that we're able to pay from. It works really well for us.

Hello,
Are there any academic libraries using Amazon Prime? We’re curious about how you got that set up.
Thanks,
