AA had given us this kind of charge before, a few years ago. I get the impression that AA is a "Mom & Pop" business, or started out that way at least. It provides a specialty research area for our history faculty and students. (in fact I was just helping a history professor the other day with AA). They're adding content frequently. I'm not inclined to be too upset over it, especially given the kind of money we constantly hand over to larger businesses and organizations.
[Disclaimer: I don't own stock in Accessible Archives, but I do have a soft spot for hobby-to-business small-family enterprises serving niche interests.]

This kind of charge will happen with smaller vendors. I have had vendors charge for an upgrade fee on occasion.

We have received such an invoice as well. This is the first time that I have seen such a charge from a vendor. I'm really glad that someone put this out for discussion, as I was caught my surprise on this.

Subject: [ACQNET-L] Accessible Archives charging for systems upgrades?
Hi all,
I was surprised to find an invoice in my inbox this morning from Accessible Archives for a system upgrade for all tracking software and hardware. I checked our license agreement, and it does not say anything about ever being charged for such a thing. And, none of our other vendors charge us for systems upgrades. While I wait to hear back from them about the details of this charge, I would like to know a) if others are being charged this fee by Accessible Archives and b) if you have ever been charged by a vendor for a systems upgrade.
I look forward to your comments!
