My colleague Alayne Mundt (Resource Description Librarian) and I have been
given the opportunity to author a new column in Against the Grain. It's
called "Let's Get Technical" and it will feature Practical Solutions to
Technical Problems. So far, we have written 3 columns about particular
problems at our library and how we came up with solutions to tackle them.
One was having Acquisitions staff copy catalog Shelf-ready books, one was
involving the collaboration between Acquisitions and Cataloging in moving
100,000 books to off-site storage and one was devising a new system for
clearing out a backlog of damaged books.
We are seeking to interview other Technical Service units who have engaged
in similar ventures - preferably collaboration among units in technical
services. If you have a story to tell, we want to interview you! Please
contact me if you are interested. I think this is going to be a fun column
and very useful to all of us.
