TECHNICAL SERVICES LIBRARIAN
Lafayette College seeks an innovative, forward-thinking librarian to
lead our technical services department in monographic and serials
acquisition, cataloging, and electronic resource management. Broad
knowledge of scholarly publishing, responsiveness to changes in the
dissemination and discovery of scholarly information, and the ability to
make informed cost-benefit analyses for ongoing technical services
workflow redesign will be essential.
This position reports to the Director for Access & Technical Services
and works closely with other colleagues on collection development and
electronic resources management. The technical services librarian
supervises 5 FTE technical services support staff, setting performance
goals and managing work standards in accordance with best practices.
Required Qualifications:
ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent in knowledge and experience.
Familiarity with issues and practices pertaining to publishers,
vendors, licenses, pricing models, and financial and statistical
management tools.
Experience working with electronic resources in an academic library.
Ability to communicate and work well with colleagues on
inter-departmental initiatives, respecting different perspectives on
shared work.
Understanding of database issues and platform interoperability needs
Ability to manage projects, including training, quality control,
and follow-up.
Working knowledge of library systems, especially proxy servers and
link resolvers, as well as familiarity with emerging electronic
resources standards such as ONIX, SUSHI, COUNTER, SERU.
Proficiency with standard cataloging practices and rules.
1-2 years of supervisory experience
3-5 years of cataloging experience
Experience working with systems and tools currently in use in
Lafayette Libraries, including III and EBSCO EDS
Experience with budget allocations, reports, and projections
Familiarity with electronic resource management systems
Knowledge of serials cataloging.
