Stanford University Libraries (SUL) is seeking a highly enthusiastic and 
innovative individual to become a key member of the Acquisitions 
Department management team. The Ordering and Fiscal Librarian reports to 
the Head of Acquisitions and provides leadership, direction, and 
expertise for 3 units within the Acquisitions Department: Ordering, 
Payments, and Gifts for a total of 14 FTE.

The Ordering unit acquires library resources in all physical and 
electronic formats for twelve Stanford libraries, with an annual 
materials budget of over $20,000,000, half of which is for electronic 
formats. This position includes a significant role in providing 
strategic direction as content formats and delivery mechanisms develop 
and expand. The successful candidate will be inquisitive and creative in 
the investigation and experimentation of emerging technologies that will 
advance our ability to acquire and deliver content that supports 
evolving models of scholarship and research.

The Payments unit processes all payments for resources purchased 
worldwide for SUL's collection. The Ordering and Fiscal Librarian takes 
a lead role in monitoring and ensuring security, integrity and financial 
accountability for current Payment systems and effectively responds to 
the continual changes in fiscal systems, codes and regulations. As 
global financial systems evolve, critical thinking for process 
improvement within the Payments unit is essential to this position.

As the primary liaison between the Acquisitions Department and the 
Collections program, the Ordering and Fiscal Librarian nurtures a 
culture of communication and collaboration in support of of SUL's 
collecting efforts. This position requires a high level of engagement in 
other SUL inter-departmental endeavors where it is expected that the 
incumbent's leadership, expertise, judgment, and analysis will 
contribute to successful outcomes.


Qualifications:

  * Strong interest in providing leadership in an organization that
    values creativity as part of continuous change.

  * Demonstrated supervisory experience and ability to motivate staff in
    a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  * Minimum three years of experience working in an acquisitions
    department for appointment at the 3P2 level; seven years at the 3P3
    level.

  * Working familiarity with Collection Development policies and practices.

  * Strong commitment to collaboration, quality service and innovation.

  * Must be able to identify and apply technical solutions to problems;
    must have advanced skill in using MS Word, Excel and Access.

  * Proficiency using an integrated library system (Sirsi/Dynix Symphony
    preferred), particularly the Acquisitions, Payments, and Reports
    modules.

  * Excellent communication skills; strong organization and time
    management skills.

  * MLS, MLIS or the equivalent in education and experience.

The Stanford University Libraries collects a wide range of materials in 
support of world-class teaching, learning and research. SUL's 
collections include over 9 million physical volumes and over one million 
volumes in electronic formats. The Acquisitions Department purchases 
resources in all formats and languages throughout the world. The 
department consists of 46 staff members and is part of SUL's Technical 
Services Division.
