Hello,
Thanks so much to everyone who responded to my question about PPR and scholarly media. I got a lot of great information that I believe will help us better formulate a policy around these types of purchases. It seems that for most libraries, the decision to purchase blanket PPR really depends on the purpose of the library and the needs of the community they serve. Most of the librarians who responded do not buy PPR unless no other purchase option is available. I've gotten several requests to compile the responses I received and have attached a document with this information. Thanks again for all your help!
One other thing I'm curious about, when you are required by a vendor to purchase an "institutional copy" of a film which includes PPR, do you advertise to your faculty that the title can be shown at an event? For instance, we put a note in the catalog and our media librarian keeps a list of titles with PPR that faculty may use for a campus-wide showing. We feel like faculty should be able to take advantage of PPR when a vendor requires us to purchase it; however, it seems that this sometimes leads faculty to believe that it is the library's responsibility to purchase PPR for films they wish to show on campus.
Thanks,
Lindsay Barnett
