San Jose State University, King Library, is recruiting for an Associate
Dean of Digital Initiatives, Technical Services, and Information
Technology.

About the Position
The Associate Dean, Digital Initiatives, Technical Services, and
Information Technology works under the general direction of the Dean of the
University Library and works cooperatively with faculty and administrators.
The purpose of this position is to support the San Jose State University
Library's mission and goals by leading the library into the digital future.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, planning for Digital
Initiatives, Online Learning, Learning Management Systems (LMS), Project
Management, and the development of innovative technology-embedded learning
spaces. The Associate Dean requires a clear understanding of California and
national trends in education, and will provide effective leadership in
developing digital initiatives, utilizing emerging technologies to better
serve students and faculty, enhancing library operations with technology,
enhancing and promoting the digital repository, and initiating new and
innovative technology-based services and library spaces.
Besides working effectively with faculty, staff, students and other
administrators to articulate and implement the Library’s mission, vision,
and philosophy, the Associate Dean exhibits solid management skills,
leadership qualities, effectiveness in resource management, and the ability
to build partnerships within the University, throughout the California
State University system, and with the community. Also, the Associate Dean
fosters diversity in the King library faculty and staff within a collective
bargaining environment.
In addition, the Associate Dean serves on the Dean’s senior management
team, is in charge of the Library in the Dean’s absence, and assists with
budget allocation. The Associate Dean works with and provides leadership
and vision to the Dean, the Associate Library Dean for User Services,
Research and Scholarly Resources and the Manager of Library Administrative
Services. Furthermore, the Associate Dean supervises the Manager of
Information Technology, the Manager of Technical Services, and the Library
Project Specialist to manage the Library's resources toward accomplishment
of Library and University goals.
The Associate Dean works closely in partnership with San Jose Public
Library (SJPL) management to coordinate digital services and technology
operations within the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, and at the same
time, collaborates with counterparts in SJPL to implement a shared vision
and to effectively offer quality services and resources to both the
University and the broader San Jose community.
Education and Experience
- Master's degree in Library and Information Science (ALA accredited) or
equivalent and demonstrated progressively responsible management experience
at an academic library.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies and their applications in digital
libraries.
- Experience managing information technology unit, technical services, and
digital programs; utilizing emerging technologies in providing access to
collections and instructional services; and creating innovative
technology-embedded library spaces.
- Experience overseeing a Library ILS.
- Proven successful administrative experience and leadership in an academic
library environment.
- Experience managing academic library budgets.
- Experience managing technology based functions.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
- Experience with and proven ability to lead effective team-based
organizations.
- Experience in a shared governance environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to innovation in academic libraries.
- Demonstrated commitment to collaboration with other organizations.
- Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to envision the academic library of the future.
- Proven ability to write and evaluate requests for proposals and negotiate
contracts with vendors.
- Record of scholarly, professional, or creative achievement sufficient to
achieve tenure at the rank of Associate Librarian.
- Experience with partnerships including external organizations and the
public community.
- Leadership in academic technology, digital programs, multi-media spaces,
and utilizing emerging technologies to provide innovative library services.
