We have for most of our titles. It works well for us. We are a small University, and we never really had a huge list of standing orders to start with. We are finding that while it does take a careful checking to make sure each edition has been ordered, we have saved money doing it this way.
I have created a spreadsheet for title with a field for expected publication date. I check on each title around that time, and I either order it if it is available, or change the date if the publication date has changed.
Also, I am the only one who orders books for my institution, so I don't have to worry about duplication of orders.
Please let me know if you have any specific questions!

Subject: [ACQNET-L] Standing Orders
Has anyone eliminated all standing orders with book vendors and started ordering them on an edition-by-edition basis? I'd be interested to hear any comments or feedback on how well that has (or hasn't) worked.
