Northern Michigan University invites nominations and applications for 
the position of Dean, Academic Information Services (AIS). AIS is 
comprised of five departments: Lydia M. Olson Library; Computing Help 
Desk; Instructional Design & Technology; Upper Peninsula and Northern 
Michigan University Archives; Beaumier Upper Peninsula Heritage Center. 
Academic Information Services’ faculty and staff are deeply committed to 
providing the support and resources needed for our students, faculty, 
and staff to be successful in a technology-rich teaching and learning 
environment.

NMU provides its faculty and students with laptop computers and 
encourages the use of technology, traditional and digital resources, 
active learning methods, and community engagement through service 
learning opportunities. The campus lies along the shore of Lake Superior 
where a pristine natural environment offers unparalleled year-round 
recreational opportunities. NMU also serves as a cultural center for the

The Dean serves as AIS’ chief administrative officer reporting to the 
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. AIS seeks an 
innovative, energetic individual to provide dynamic and visionary 
leadership for information and instructional services and resources. 
Responsibilities include providing leadership for library, computing, 
and instructional resources and services; budget management; personnel 
supervision, development, and evaluation; assessment; strategic 
planning; leadership for the integration of technology and digital 
resources in both classroom and distance learning environments; and 
serving as an advocate for AIS to the University and external constituents.
