In our library, librarians engage in all the activities of librarianship
and the focus is teaching. We teach a 2-credit required course for
incoming first year students, along with one-time classes, individual
instruction, etc. In addition, each of us is assigned to approximately 2-4
different departments/disciplines to act as liaison. As liaisons, we
interact with the faculty and students, and take responsibility for
collection development for those departments/disciplines. Finally, we all
work the reference desk, which we view as another teaching opportunity,
focusing on teaching users how to find information for themselves rather
than simply supplying them with answers.
