ALCTS webinar: Recording RDA Elements in MARC 21 Fields in Name
Authority Records
Date: September 12, 2012
All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11am Pacific, noon
Mountain, 1pm Central, and 2pm Eastern time.
Description: RDA: Resource, Description & Access contains instructions
for recording FRAD attributes (called elements in RDA) for persons,
families, and corporate bodies in name authority records. The MARC 21
Format for Authority Data was enhanced with new or redefined fields to
accommodate these instructions and most have been in use since October
of 2010. This webinar will focus on the use of these new fields in RDA
authority records and will present best practices for providing that
information in MARC-based name authority records.
Learning outcomes: Attendees will walk away with best practice
guidelines as applied at the national cataloging level for adding the
new MARC fields to RDA and AACR2 authority records.
Who should attend? All librarians that interact with authority records
with a desire to learn more about the new attributes/elements being
added to name authority records. Specifically, the webinar will appeal
to all AACR2 and RDA catalogers that create or interact with name
authority records either at the local system level or when working with
records from the LC/NACO Authority File.
Presenter: Ana Lupe Cristán is a policy specialist in cooperative
cataloging programs at the Library of Congress’ Policy and Standards
Division (PSD). She has worked at the Library of Congress since 1984 and
since 1992 has presented workshops on MARC 21 and on the creation of
name authority records for contribution to the NACO component of the
Program for Cooperative Cataloging. She joined the staff in PSD in 2004
and is a member of the team that contributes to the development and
maintenance of RDA: Resource, Description & Access
