E-Resources & Serials Acquisitions Librarian



The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a dynamic, 
innovative, and team-oriented librarian to serve as leader of the 
E-Resources & Serials Acquisitions Section within the E Resources & 
Serials Management Department.



Staff in E-Resources & Serials Management work together as a 
collaborative, service-oriented team that strives to ensure that 
students, faculty, and staff have easy access to a broad range of 
research publications provided through the University Library. Under the 
general direction of the department head, the E-Resources & Serials 
Acquisitions Librarian leads the section responsible for the acquisition 
and management of electronic resources and print serials. In support of 
the teaching and research mission of the University, the individual in 
this position works collaboratively with Library colleagues and with 
publisher and vendor representatives.



The E-Resources & Serials Acquisitions Librarian provides leadership in 
the acquisition, maintenance, and support of electronic resources and 
print serials offered by the University Library, and participates in 
policy development regarding e-resources and serials in support of 
University Library priorities. The E Resources & Serials Acquisitions 
Librarian supervises the E Resources Librarian, who leads the licensing 
team, as well as five staff members whose primary assignments involve 
the acquisition, implementation, and front-line service of electronic 
resources and print serials. The Librarian is responsible for: reviewing 
workflows for efficiency and effectiveness; coordinating the 
documentation of section procedures; conducting license negotiations 
with information providers as a member of the University Library 
licensing team; serving as liaison to vendors and other Library 
departments regarding issues and questions related to the acquisition 
and receipt of e-resources and print serials; developing and maintaining 
an understanding of issues related to e resources and serials, 
contributing to the professional dialogue and a wide variety of 
pertinent Library initiatives. Additionally, the E-Resources & Serials 
Acquisitions Librarian serves on relevant Library committees and task 
forces and may represent the Library with consortial organizations.



Requirements:

ALA accredited master's degree in library or information science. Three 
or more years of related experience in an academic library. Demonstrated 
experience with issues and practices involved in the acquisition and 
maintenance of print serials and e-resource collections. Supervisory 
experience. Proficiency in creating and manipulating spreadsheets. 
Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Excellent written and 
verbal communication skills. Effective organization and time management 
skills. The ability to work well within a team environment and with 
diverse groups of library staff. Strong commitment to customer service. 
Enthusiasm for an innovative and evolving work environment.



Preferred Qualifications:

Experience using library management and electronic resources systems 
such as Innovative Interfaces' Millennium system and Serials Solutions 
360 products. Supervisory experience relating to acquisitions or other 
technical services operations. Project management skills. Understanding 
of business and licensing models and their budget implications, and the 
ability to clearly communicate that understanding. Experience with 
relational database programs. Involvement in professional development 
activities, including research and participation in professional 
organizations. Track record of professional involvement in e-resources 
and/or serials.
