Programs:
1) Incorporating Batch Cataloging of MARC Record Sets into the Work of
the Metadata Services Dept. (MSD) at College Park
Description of presentation: The presenters will discuss the work and
skill sets of the MSD staff members who participated in training and
learning to use MarcEdit for batch cataloging of record sets; how the
training was performed; where we are now; and how we expect to move
forward as rapid technological changes continue to drive the work of
library technical services.
(Beth Guay and Donna King, UMCP)
2) Ebooks ad DOIs: Where We’re at and Where We Might Go
Description of presentation: The development of Digital Object
Identifiers, how they are used currently, and some of the possibilities
for using them with eBooks will be discussed.
(Tiffany Wilson, UMBC)
3) The Changing Landscape of Electronic Resources Work Flows: Pictures
from TWO USMAI Libraries
Description of presentation: Organization of electronic resources
workflow is critical in the increasingly complex world of library
management. The way in which this management process is structured
differs according to the type of library and organizational structure
within. A common goal, though, is strategically sustaining access and
availability to electronic resources over time and the effective
management of the library staff that maintains them. We will discuss how
we approach electronic resources management (ERM) from different vantage
points. Lenore (England, UMUC and Kelly Shipp, UMBC)
4) One Home for Your Electronic Resources Management
Description of presentation: An overview of Serials Solutions 360
Resource Manager and Demonstration of A-Z list created through 360 will
be presented.
(Susan Wheeler and Michael Schochet, UBalt)
5) WorldCat Knowledge Base Implementation Issues
Description of presentation: The WorldCat Knowledge Base allows OCLC
member libraries to load their e-journal and database holdings into one
central location. Once loaded, the WorldCat Knowledge Base provides
direct links to articles for libraries using ILLiad or WorldCat Resource
Sharing, as well as enhanced features in WorldCat Local. OCLC is also
exploring other uses for the Knowledge Base, including an A-to-Z journal
index. OCLC provides two different methods for adding content to the
Knowledge base: loading holdings into PubGet using admin logins or
uploading holdings from a local link resolver (SFX). We will be
discussing both methods of implementing the WorldCat Knowledge base and
some of the issues encountered during implementation.
(Marlene Vikor, UMCP and Janet Hack, UMBC)
