JOB SUMMARY

In this tenure track faculty position, the Acquisitions Librarian 
routinely works with the Acquisitions Department Chair, Acquisitions 
Managers, departments within the division as well as selectors and staff 
across the university to develop interdepartmental projects, reporting, 
and initiatives. The Acquisitions Librarian is instrumental in assisting 
the Acquisitions Department Chair in coordinating the acquisition, 
management, and access of e-book content and in developing and managing 
demand-driven collection building efforts, including shared e-book 
plans. The Acquisitions Librarian organizes departmental training to 
develop technical services competencies, and serves as training liaison 
for acquisitions functions carried out by staff and faculty external to 
the Acquisitions Department. The Acquisitions Librarian in conjunction 
with the chair of the department partners with librarians from the State 
University Libraries (SUL) and other library consortia, Florida Center 
for Library Automation (FCLA), and other cooperative partnerships to 
conduct acquisitions and collection management projects.



RESPONSIBILITIES

· Assists the chair of the department to refine, create, and support 
acquisitions operations; implement new procedures and redesign 
workflows; develop special projects, and coordinate with subject 
selectors to conduct collection and budget reviews.

· Works with IT staff in developing specialized reports and statistical 
analyses for department and libraries.

· Assists the chair of the department to coordinate e-book purchases and 
management, including consortially shared content; works with Electronic 
Resource Librarian and staff as well as external organizations (vendors, 
FCLA, librarians representing state consortia) to facilitate purchase 
and access; reviews terms of licenses; gathers statistics and performs 
analysis for in-house and external reporting (e.g. Association of 
Research Libraries).

· Working with staff in the Cataloging & Metadata Department and the 
E-Resources Unit, analyzes and enhances e-book MARC records to assign 
subject disciplines and call numbers for improving user access, applies 
expenditure figures per college for Responsibility Center Management 
(RCM) reporting.

· Designs and conducts training for departmental competencies; acts as 
workflow liaison and primary trainer, creating documentation and 
handouts, to communicate acquisitions functions necessary to staff and 
faculty.

· On occasion the Acquisitions Librarian will supervise departmental 
employees in the absence of the chair, and act as department 
representative for committees, task forces, and statewide library 
initiatives as directed by the chair.

· Conducts scholarly research and publishes in the field of library and 
information science; takes an active role in conferences and committee 
work on a national and regional scale; attends workshops and classes as 
needed.

· Serves on UF, Smathers Libraries, state, and national library 
committees as appropriate.



QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

· Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited library school.

· One year relevant work experience in library technical operations or 
collection building.

· Experience using an integrated library system (ILS), preferably Ex 
Libris Aleph.

· Experience preparing ongoing and special reports on academic library 
collections (e.g., using WorldCat Analysis, ILS tools, etc.).

· Ability to develop training materials and provide technical training.

· Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills; 
ability to perform complex workflow analyses.

· Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.

· Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

· Initiative, flexibility, and the ability to adapt and work creatively 
in a complex, rapidly changing academic environment.

· Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

· Strong potential for meeting the requirements for tenure and promotion

Preferred:

· Library project coordination experience, with a special emphasis on 
development and improvement of technical services workflows.

· Experience in managing library material budgets.

· Experience working with library vendor representatives and service 
providers.

· Knowledge of domestic and international publication trends across 
various scholarly disciplines, including shifts in format from print to 
electronic.

· Supervisory experience.
