Greetings ACQNET-L subscribers,

It’s not often I get the chance to address this forum directly these days,
since my trusted colleagues Keith Powell and Lisa Spagnolo have so reliably
maintained ACQNET-L on a daily basis. But this is an opportunity I can’t
resist. I’ve been the chief editor of this listserve since 1994 and that is
a long time in Internet years.

I’ve been working for the last few months on trying to compile all the
members of the ACQNET-L editorial board over time. I keep getting
interrupted by work and personal priorities. So the main caveat here is
that if I have left someone out in advertently, please accept my apologies
in advance.

To receive the 2011 ALA ALCTS Leadership in Acquisitions Award is an honor.
What’s funny about it is that my professional identity is stretched over
several aspects of technical services work. Some people have known me as a
cataloger, others think of me as a serials librarian, and yet others think
of me in terms of acquisitions work because of ACQNET-L. I even
occasionally hang out with the preservation crowd. Which is why now I am so
happy to be administering the whole span of technical services and
collection development, since I really do like “it all.”

Having ACQNET-L as a home base has felt very comfortable for me
professionally, since it was in monographic acquisitions that I had my first
library job. But there is so much more to acquisitions work than that, and
over the years, the many changes in the dynamics of selecting and acquiring
materials has been mind-boggling!

Naturally, the official awards ceremony does not allow me the time to say
any of this, as ALCTS has plenty of deserving awards to bestow, but not
enough time for all of us to say thank you in any detail to anyone. Lucky
me, I have this listserve where I can thank you all properly!

The ACQNET editorial board members over the years have been a guiding group
of colleagues for me. Thank you all for being supportive and for providing
wise counsel. And same sincere thanks to the subscriber base over the
years.

Here is a list of all editorial board members, as I can reconstruct it over
time:

Christian Boissonnas, Founding Editor

March 8, 1994 is when it was announced I would take on the editorship of

that!)

There are numerous people who along the way have assisted with surveys,
projects, and AcqWeb. I’d like to particularly acknowledge Ajaye Bloomstone
and Kevin Clarke for their help with AcqWeb. Also Terry Combs and Martin
Moore at Appalachian State, Eric Lease Morgan (with his amazing Archival
process), and Cristobal Palmer at UNC-CH for awesome technical support over
the years.

I must also acknowledge many mentors, supervisors, and/or close colleagues
along the way: Janet Flowers, Marcia Tuttle, Ann Vidor, Gloria Houser, Myrna
McCallister, Lenore Dudley, Bede Mitchell, John Abbott, Katina Strauch,
Corrie Marsh, Dan Tonkery, Mike Markwith, Mary Reichel, Larry Boyer, Lauren
Corbett, Evelyn Council, Kathy Brown, and Christie Degener. There are
numerous other people from various realms I feel I should acknowledge here
but the list simply too long.(sorry if I left you out!)

I also wish to thank this year's Award Jury (Julie Gammon, Ann-Marie Breaux,
and Katy Ginanni) and Harrassowitz and the ALCTS Acquisitions Section for
their generous support of this award.

Thanks to all! Eleanor
