Information Analyst for Technical Services (FA144z)

The George Mason University Libraries seek a dynamic, service-oriented
and flexible professional for the position of Information Analyst for
Technical Services.

This is a newly created position that will report to the Director,
Technical Services and work closely and collaboratively with several
departments that cross organizational divisions – the Technical Services
Group, Collection Development and Preservation, and the Systems Group –
to ensure the efficient use of information systems for technical
processing and related collection management. This position is meant to
help staff think through what they need from the various library
information systems; determine functional requirements; and then to work
with the dedicated Systems Group team, in the Libraries' Digital
Programs and Systems division, to fulfill those needs. While we are
looking for someone interested in data, data structures and library
systems, this is not an information technology-track position. The
incumbent will have full, read-only access to library systems, but will
work with the Systems Group to extract data or request changes to
systems. This is an excellent position for an enthusiastic librarian who
is looking to expand his/her skill set, gain experience across a range
of library departments, and be part of a forward-looking team committed
to change.

This position will: construct reports and work with the Systems Group to
run reports to support the needs of collections and technical services;
monitor changes to MARC and work with the Systems Group to ensure the
ILS (integrated library system) is kept current; with the Head of
Cataloging and Metadata Services, work on bibliographic and authority
projects and record loading; act as the coordinator for TSG stakeholders
when implementing new functionality; apply knowledge of the ILS and
bibliographic control standards to improve the efficiency and quality of
technical processing workflows; work with vendors and George Mason
finance departments to streamline financial functions; participate in
discussions of new procedures and policies within technical services;
communicate regularly with collections and technical services staff to
gather input about the ILS and other systems; keep up-to-date with
professional and technical developments; and participate in relevant
professional networks.

We are looking for a smart, motivated, tech-savvy person who is ready to
learn and has an appetite for new ideas and thinking. The ideal
candidate works well with uncertainty and flourishes in a changing
environment; is flexible, proactive and has excellent problem-solving,
communication and relationship management skills; has a customer service
orientation; and is interested in teaching and learning.

Qualifications – Required: An MLS degree from an ALA-accredited academic
institution; experience with technical services work (acquisitions,
serials and/or cataloging); knowledge of database concepts and metadata
standards; good organizational and interpersonal skills; successful
experience with collaboration and teamwork; and strong analytical
skills. Preferred: Experience with systems currently in use is highly
desired: Voyager ILS, Serials Solutions e-resource management system,
DSpace, SunGard Banner accounting system; knowledge of MARC; experience
using SQL; and experience with training and creating reports is a plus.

Appointment/Benefits/To Apply: 12-month professional faculty appointment
with rank and salary dependent on qualifications and experience. Salary,
benefits information and application instructions are available at the
George Mason employment site. All applications for this position
(FA144z) MUST be submitted online at <http://jobs.gmu.edu/>. Questions
