Collection Assessment and Analysis Librarian
Dartmouth College Library seeks a forward-thinking, intellectually
curious individual to provide system-wide leadership and support in the
analysis and assessment of the Library’s collections activities.
Reporting to the Head of Acquisitions Services, the Collection
Assessment and Analysis Librarian will work with Acquisitions
colleagues, selectors from across the system, and others involved in
collections activities to develop qualitative and quantitative methods
of assessing the value and effectiveness of the Library’s collection
development program and how well it anticipates the current and future
needs of the Dartmouth College community. The Librarian will support
selectors through the generation and analysis of data relating to
collections activities, including selection, circulation, usage
statistics, vendor performance, financial data, and information industry
trends to enable evidence-based collection management decisions. S/he
will work closely with the Associate Librarian for Information Resources
to assess the value and outcomes of collaborative arrangements with
other institutions and to help establish strategic priorities that
support College and Library academic goals. In addition, s/he will work
with collection analysis colleagues across the BorrowDirect group to
meet the information needs of students and faculty across the nine
member institutions. The Librarian is a member of the Acquisitions
Management Team and shares in the hiring, training, management and
supervision of Acquisitions staff.
QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA-accredited program and 3-5 years
experience in acquisitions or collection development in an academic or
research library (significant pre-professional experience may be
substituted). The successful candidate will have experience with
collections analysis and collections budget management; experience with
statistics and spreadsheet applications; excellent organizational skills
and demonstrated ability to solve problems and manage complex workflows;
excellent oral and written communications skills; ability to work
appropriately with sensitive and confidential materials and situations;
experience with integrated library systems (Innovative Interfaces Inc.
preferred); strong commitment to working collaboratively across
departments and with partner institutions; and two or more years of
supervisory experience (preferred).
RANK AND SALARY: The position is part of the Librarian Classification
System of Professional Ranks. Salary is commensurate with experience and
qualifications. Full benefits package including 22 vacation days;
comprehensive health care; retirement plans, including TIAA-CREF; and
relocation assistance.
