Subject: Future of the Book Conference
Florida State University Libraries and the Panhandle Library Access
Network (PLAN) invite you to attend The Future of the Book Conference
July 21-22 in Tallahassee, Florida. As our libraries migrate more and
more to electronic resources of all kinds, as we honor the history of
the book in our Special Collections, as we build our institutional and
shared e-book collections, and shared repositories for print; it's clear
that format changes are having a dramatic impact on how institutions and
consortia do collection development and provide services to our
constituents. The Future of the Book Conference is meant to be an
exploration of the book's rich past, present and future and how this
progression has shaped our libraries and will reshape our libraries in
the years to come.
You are encouraged submit program proposals throughout the month of
April. Additional information can be found at:
http://www.lib.fsu.edu/TheFutureOfTheBook/
Featured speakers will be:
Elaine Treharne, History of Text Technologies faculty at FSU and expert
on the history of the book.
Bob Stein, founder of The Institute for the Future of the Book, a think
& do tank aimed at exploring and influencing the evolution of new forms
of intellectual expression.
Lou Pitschmann, Dean of Libraries at the University of Alabama.
Some components of the website are still under development so keep an
eye on it for updates. We anticipate the registration cost to be $100.
Let me know if you have any questions.
