Acquisitions Specialist - (Higher Education Assistant)


Reporting to the Head of Collection Management, the Acquisitions 
Specialist supervises the Acquisitions Division of the Hunter College 
Libraries. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
Administration of the Libraries’ materials budget; monitoring spending 
using the library’s online system (Aleph) and various office systems, 
including designing and maintaining expenditure reports; planning, 
implementing and administration of all aspects of ordering and receiving 
of print and electronic materials; establishing and maintaining 
relationships with college business office personnel, publishers and 
vendors, and collaborating daily with all library staff involved in 
selection and processing of materials.

The Acquisitions Specialist will also assist faculty and staff in 
understanding and applying “fair use” and educational issues of 
copyright material, and facilitates copyright permissions for faculty. 
This position supervises the Acquisitions staff (2 FT) and manages 
Mending, Mail and Duplicating Services. They also assist with the 
maintenance of electronic resources management systems
Qualifications:

Required: A Bachelors degree plus four years of related experience or a 
combination of experience and education above the baccalaureate. 
Knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing programs is also required.

Highly desirable: Familiarity with academic accounting practices, the 
book trade, and an online library system; knowledge of copyright and 
“fair use”; supervisory experience; excellent communications and 
interpersonal skills.

Salary: $42,873 -$71,073, commensurate with qualifications and 
experience. Excellent fringe benefits. 35-hour, 5-day work week. 
Position is available February 1st, 2011. Review of applications will
