Hi Julie,
It is a problem as they are expensive to purchase. There is an non purchase option via the Swank Movie database. You basically rent the movies for a semester and they can be streamed and I believe linked to Black Board as well. I think that they are about $100 each, not cheap but 1/3 the price of the most videos for institutional sale.
Some libraries have purchased Netflix subscriptions but there are contract violation issues that you would have to contend with that and as a newbie do you really want to deal with that.

Most libraries won't ILL videos, but libraries will loan out video's to individuals. Do any of the Chicago Public Libraries have copies of the needed videos? Is someone in your library willing to assume responsibility and borrow on their personal account for the Professor's use. Granted this means someone has to pick up the video's.
Not sure if any of this helped.
Good luck.

Subject: [ACQNET-L] Video acquisitions
Hello,
I'm the librarian at the new DC campus of the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. We only just started in the fall 2010 semester. Our acquisitions budget is small and our video budget is non-existent. However, I have a professor this semester that needs 6 (expensive) videos and have no funds to purchase them. I think ILL is not typically an option when it comes to videos. So my question is, are there any options that I am missing? This may sound like a newbie question, but I have not been in this situation before and want to cast a wide net.
Thank you!
