ALCTS webinar: Copyright and Contracts: Moving Beyond Text in IRs
Date: January 26, 2011
All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 2pm Eastern, 1pm
Central, noon Mountain, and 11am Pacific Time.
Description: As the content in institutional repositories expands to
include media, data and other format types, concerns over copyright also
swell. Moreover, with institutions using social media sites such as
Flickr and YouTube to highlight the institution's intellectual output
and collections, the contractual terms of these sites also need to be
considered. This webinar will allow attendees a chance to navigate the
legal landscape of IRs with creative content, and intends to include
time for audience Q&A.
Audience: All those who have implemented, or are considering
implementing, an institutional repository.
Presenter: Lisa Macklin is the Director, Libraries Intellectual Property
Rights Office for Emory University. Lisa received her library degree
from the University of South Florida and her law degree from Georgia
State University. Lisa focuses on copyright, licensing and scholarly
communication issues, working with faculty and students on the
application of copyright law to teaching, research and publishing. Her
interests include transformations in scholarship and publishing,
including new models of scholarship in digital form and the Open Access
movement.
This is the first in a series of four webinars about institutional
repositories to be offered between January and June 2011. The webinars
included in the IR series are:
January 26, 2011 - Copyright and Contracts: Moving Beyond Text in IRs
April 13, 2011 - Repository Metadata: Challenges of Interoperability
May 11, 2011 - Engaging Your Campus in Utilizing Institutional
Repositories, with Marianne Buehler
June 1, 2011 - Re-engineering the Institutional Repository to Engage
Users, with Suzanne Bell and Nathan Sarr
