The Brown University Library is seeking dynamic, forward-thinking
candidates for the position of Resource Acquisition and Management (RAM)
Librarian. The RAM Librarian manages day-to-day operations supporting
the electronic resource management and access systems for Brown
University Library. This position works closely with the Head of
Acquisitions and the Electronic Resources Coordinator to provide support
for evidence-based collection management decisions and works with the
Library’s Scholarly Resources specialists to analyze collection use and
trends. The RAM Librarian collects and analyzes statistical data on
expenditures, tracks use of electronic resources, analyzes vendor
performance, and evaluates returns on investment for resource
expenditures. S/he will collaborate with Scholarly Resources librarians
and other Library staff to help analyze collection use and trends. S/he
will assist in planning for and managing alternative means of materials
selection, including unmediated, demand-driven purchases. Evaluation of
workflows, process improvement recommendations, statistical analyses,
and other reports to senior management will be a critical part of the
position's responsibilities.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
* ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science
* 3-5 years of experience in research library acquisitions and
electronic resources management
* Demonstrated ability to produce accurate, timely reports on resource
use, costs, and other measures
* Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
* General knowledge of a range of software applications supporting
access to online collections and associated technologies
* Strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills
* Ability to work in a diverse and rapidly-changing environment
* Ability to work effectively with vendor representatives, library
management, and others to deliver services
Other skills that will be highly attractive include:
* Previous experience with Innovative Interfaces systems (Millennium, ERM)
* Knowledge of relational database creation and maintenance desirable
* Previous supervisory experience desirable
