Head, Content Development/Acquisitions Department
Position
K-State Libraries (www.lib.k-state.edu) are conducting a search for the
position of Head Content Development/Acquisitions. This is an
opportunity for individuals interested in providing leadership in a
collaborative work environment. The position is full time and reports to
the Assistant Dean of the Content Management/Scholarly Communications
Division. The successful candidate will be actively involved in the
collaborative development of a revised organizational structure for the
department. In addition to administrative responsibilities, this
position will participate in routine departmental work. The term of
service will be determined at the time of appointment but shall not
exceed five years in length. Reappointment to additional terms is possible.
Core Position Duties
* Provide leadership and innovation for the department and manage human,
financial, and other resources and daily operations
* Supervise 6-8 staff members that may include faculty, unclassified
professionals and classified employees
* Maintain effective business relationships with vendors and assess
vendor performance
* Maintain acquisitions data, statistics, reports, policies and
procedures for all systems utilized (Voyager, ILL, vendor platforms, etc.)
* Ensure efficient workflow and maintain policies and procedures for
acquisitions/resource sharing unit including interlibrary loan/document
delivery, monographs, non-print, and e-resources
* Maintain knowledge of trends and issues for content management in
academic research libraries and provide leadership for the changing
roles and work of that unit
* Coordinate holistic collection development policies
* Work with Office of Library Planning and Assessment to identify
assessment needs and methods
* Provide new employee orientation, mentoring, performance evaluations,
merit recommendations, and submit reports as needed
* Coordinate departmental planning, priorities and goal setting
* Participate in the Libraries’ leadership council
* Serve as primary communication link in and outside the department
* Participate in university department head functions
* Work with others as appropriate to assess the need for, develop,
staff, and evaluate matrix structures
Required Qualifications
* Experience in acquisitions, e-resources, resource sharing, or
collection development/management
* Knowledge of library issues and trends in collections, acquisitions
and resource sharing
* Working knowledge of standard computer office applications (e.g.,
Word, Excel, Access)
* Excellent and demonstrable communication and organizational skills
* Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff and model
this behavior to others
* Progressive record of professional service and scholarly/creative
accomplishment
* Have a strong customer service orientation
* Personnel supervision and/or team management experience
* Commitment to staff development as well as cross departmental
collaboration and communication
* Capacity to thrive in an environment of change and the ability to
foster that capacity in others
* Demonstrated successful project management experience
* ALA-accredited MLS
* An established and evolving professional record of scholarly/creative
accomplishments and professional service sufficient to meet requirements
for tenure and appointment at the Associate Professor rank
Preferred Qualifications
* Familiarity with budgeting/financial management procedures
* Experience working with vendors and negotiation
* Familiarity with current online systems (e.g., Voyager acquisitions
module and reports, interlibrary loan ILLiad, various vendor platforms,
etc.)

Salary: Commensurate to responsibilities and experience for the term of
the department head appointment.
