Acquisitions Librarian -- The College of New Jersey
The Library at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for
a 12-month, tenure-track Acquisitions Librarian. The successful
candidate will be responsible for effective librarianship, scholarship,
and service. Specific responsibilities will include:
Acquisitions: Provide leadership in acquisitions by developing and
implementing policies and procedures based on national best practices
for all acquisitions functions. These include efficient ordering,
receiving, processing, and paying for library resources in all formats;
investigation and implementation of appropriate approval plans; binding
operations; repair/replacement operations; and gifts. Evaluate, select
and maintain relationships with vendors. Work with the Collection
Development Coordinator to analyze and monitor budget allocations and
ensure effective communications between acquisitions staff and subject
librarians. Work with Finance and Business Services to ensure timely and
efficient posting of financial data. Provide leadership in tracking and
maintaining license agreements for media materials, streaming media,
leased books, eBooks, and other formats. Supervise the work of
Acquisitions Department personnel.
Reference: Provide limited general reference service and research
assistance in collaboration with public services librarians.
Additional Responsibilities: May take on departmental liaison duties and
provide subject-specific services to students and faculty, or may take
on leadership of interlibrary loan/document delivery, depending upon
library needs and applicant’s interests and experience. Plan and carry
out a sustained and respectable body of scholarship, as outlined in the
Library Disciplinary Standards. Serve on Library and institutional
committees.
Qualifications:
Requirements: Masters degree accredited by the American Library
Association. Three years relevant professional experience in
acquisitions. Strong computer skills, including experience with
bibliographic utilities and automated library management systems such as
Voyager. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Initiative, flexibility and a strong service orientation are essential.
Preferred: Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to new and changing
situations. Demonstrated ability to analyze the operational needs of
functional areas. General knowledge of reference and collection
development. An additional graduate degree is desirable. Knowledge of
one or more Western European languages, preferably Spanish.
Appointment will be at the rank of Librarian 2. Full benefits package,
including TIAA/CREF. This position is available immediately.
