Doug, and colleagues -

The CTW (Connecticut College, Trinity College and Wesleyan University) consortium started an e-book project earlier this year. MyiLibrary (from Coutts) is the vendor and we're using their patron-driven acquisition model. The three of us already do quite a bit of sharing print books, so e-books seemed like a natural next step. Coutts treats the three of us like one institution, so any book that gets purchased by one school becomes available at the other two as well.

We're still in the early stages, so there's not a lot to report about the results yet, but we hope to present at Charleston this fall about it. I'd be happy to answer follow up questions off-list if you like.

Subject: Re: [ACQNET-L] eBook Purchasing Follow-up--role of consortia?

This has been an interesting thread to follow and raises another, related topic:

What role can (or should) consortia play in supporting ebook purchases for member libraries? Consortia have played a significant role in leveraging buying power to improve terms and pricing for ejournals but not yet in the area of ebooks.

I am preparing a brief presentation on this topic for the April ICOLC meeting and would be interested in hearing if others are exploring ebook purchases via consortia. If not, do you see ways in which consortia can help your libraries in this rapidly evolving area?

Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged. Thanks.

Thank you to those of you who responded to my inquiry about purchasing eBooks. Your comments really helped me solidify the approach we should take and I'm confident about the recommendation I will submit to my director. It truly helps when you can talk things over with colleagues, even when it's via email.

Again, thank you!!--Laverne
