We have been asked by EBL to configure our EZproxy so that users are
identified to them:
... That's correct, EZproxy should be configured to appear for both on-
and off-campus users when accessing the EBL resources for the first time
in a session. All of your users who will be accessing EBL must have
their own individual EZproxy accounts.
Unlike databases that verify solely on the basis of IP-range, EBL
requires a unique and consistent identifier (which can be provided to us
via the EZproxy system). Our ability to distinguish each user is part of
the backbone of our DRM (digital rights management) system and lending
model - and also delivers the ability for patrons to save and retrieve
their own notes associated with each ebook, as well as view their own
access and loan history. This allows for multiple concurrent users,
detailed usage reports, and copyright protection. ...
We are concerned that patron privacy is at risk.
How are other libraries addressing this issue?
Thank you,
Caryl Ward
