I can't say anything about Oasis either, but can build on the comments
about GOBI in the email below. I use the peer list feature described
below and I find it helpful in decision-making. I would suggest that
the problem described below with books not appearing in the slips could
be addressed by the library making changes in the slip profile, or it
might be related to specific alert emails to the GA that also could be
adjusted. Additionally it is possible to get table of contents and book
review info for some titles. Other thoughts:
* One important factor is that if you have your automatic
approval profile book shipments with YBP (and standing orders too), you
can reduce the risk of ordering duplicate books by using GOBI for the
firm orders as well.
* GOBI allows selectors to share suggestions via comments,
email, folders (i.e. a variety of communication tools and methods).
* Selectors can use folders to manage selection choices (e.g.
order next, maybe order later, etc.) or to manage by subject (e.g.
history, political science, etc.)
* You can run your own reports of activity (purchased, ordered,
title lists) and expenditures and export to Excel.
* Selectors can use templates to apply fund codes (and other
metadata for the library system acquisitions module) when deciding to
order a selection, which saves labor and eliminates mistakes in the
acquisitions process.
* E-books from 3 vendors are in GOBI and you have options for
seeing those or not seeing them in slip views.
* You can push alerts to faculty and they can click to make
suggestions without needing a login to GOBI.
I wish YBP could enhance GOBI to use LC classification better (more
granular level) for controlling of slip viewing and for reports (this
won't be news to YBP).
I wish I could set slip views to eliminate translations of foreign
literature and to break out based on academic level (e.g. basic,
research, supplementary, etc.).
I wish there was a batch load means to set up the email addresses of all
the library employees in the Contacts in GOBI to make it easier for
selectors to email things to each other within GOBI. This can be done
when migrating between email systems so there should be a way to do it
instead of every person with a login manually typing in email addresses
into individual contacts files - but you only have to deal with that
once if you bother to deal with it at all, so I concede it is low
priority.

Subject: Re: [ACQNET-L] Question for users of Collection Manager, GOBI,&
OASIS
I have some experience with GOBI through my position as a graduate
assistant at the Business and Economics Library at the University of
Illinois.
For our purposes, its a rather straight-forward and easy-to-use
purchasing system. Based on the profile we have with GOBI, we receive
book slips each week for books that we can purchase through our fund. As
a GA, one of my tasks is to find books that should be in that list of
slips that aren't - and the ratio is usually 3 : 1, which is not good
since at Illinois we can only (easily) purchase from the list we
receive.
Some other pros to GOBI: you can set a list of peers and see in the slip
if they have purchased the title, the slip also tells you how many
copies have been sold through GOBI, the table of contents is usually
included through the slip (as a link) as well.
I haven't seen OASIS, so I cannot offer any comparisons - though I do
know that GOBI is the primary site in use at Illinois.

Hi all,
As a result of Baker & Taylor acquiring Blackwell, we have to decide on
another online ordering interface. I would be interested in knowing the
pros and cons of GOBI & OASIS. Looking forward to your response.
Thanks in advance.
