Dear colleagues,
Please join us on Sunday, January 17th from 1:30 - 3:00 pm in BCEC room
256 for the ALA Midwinter meeting of the ALCTS Acquisitions Managers and
Vendor Interest Group.
Topic: How are and how should evolving acquisitions and public service
models affect vendor business models?
What academic libraries provide to patrons is changing, as is how they
provide these new services and materials. Electronic resources are
eclipsing print formats; consortia cooperation is strengthening and
growing in importance; patrons are being offered a more active role in
material selection; and, all within an environment of precarious
funding. These changes are affecting how libraries work with vendors
and how vendors are and should be envisioning future business models.
We will explore these changes and the effects at our midwinter
meeting. Our panelists will describe projects and/or initiatives they
have underway that reflect how their organizations are thinking
differently about buying/providing access to materials, how they are
working with and relying on vendors, what has been successful and why,
and what has failed and why.
Panel:
John Barnett, Assistant Director, Pennsylvania Academic Library Consortium
Jill Emery, Head of Acquisitions, University of Texas, Austin
Mildred L. Jackson, Associate Dean for Collections, University of
Alabama Libraries
