At Ohio State University, we pay for any e-book with a one-time fiscal commitment out of the Monographs budget.  Any e-book that involves a lease that must be renewed, an annual platform fee, or other continuing fiscal commitment is paid from the Serials budget.

We get e-books from a variety of sources.  Our individually selected e-books come primarily from ebrary, using YBP's GOBI system as the finding tool and vendor.  We are satisfied with their service, e-book platform, and patron displays and are expanding our business with them.

We're one of the libraries piloting ebrary's patron-driven e-book purchasing model.  We are close to loading about16,400 records, from a potential list of about 94,000 titles.  We have removed titles that have already been purchased consortially or previously from ebrary.

After patrons open, copy, or print a set number of pages, the item is automatically "purchased" by the pilot library and the cost is debited against a deposit account.  We're very excited about seeing how our patrons respond to this new service.

Dear All,
We are trying to allocate the next fiscal year budget for the Acquisitions and the Serials departments and we were not sure if we should pay for e-books from Acquisitions or Serials. I would be thankful if you update me on what you do in you libraries. We were thinking that we should pay the e-books packages from Serials budget and the individual selected books from Acquisitions. In addition, I would be very thankful if you can provide me with the best platforms for individual e-books selection.

Thank you in advance.
