Hello:
In my previous job, I worked for a small liberal arts college in Ohio that
was part of OhioLINK. We had access to discard lists and we requested
titles that other libraries were discarding that our library did not own and
could utilize.
I am now at a community college that is not a part of a consortium.
My question is this: Are there general discard listserves where libraries
can post their discards for other libraries to pick up for cost of postage?
More specifically, are there ones that focus on Law Libraries? We have a
paralegal program with a fairly small enrollment - we cannot purchase all of
the titles they would like us to due to needing to purchase materials based
on percent of enrollment. The percent of the budget allotted to this
program is pretty small so I am only purchasing a fraction of what is
wanted.
So.....my thinking is that if I could access a Law Library Discard List -
perhaps I could get fairly recent offerings for a fraction of the cost. I
have consulted with my instructors and they have said a year or two old
materials would be better than not having the titles at all.
Anyone know of any discard lists (regardless if they are specific to Law or
just general).
If you will reply directly to my email - I will consolidate the findings and
report to the list with all responses.
If you would prefer to email me at my work email (vs. this personal email -
that would be sgannon_at_brownmackie.edu.
I have all my list emails going to a personal email account for ease in
reading and sorting.
Thanks,
Sheryl Gannon
