I am editing a special issue of Against the Grain on those of us who
have taken on more and more non-acquisitions and serials work over the
last few years - either voluntarily or forcibly. It might be your
subject knowledge from before you got your MLS, or teaching, or
whatever. It could be your job, at a smaller place, or consolidation
of jobs because of job freezes. Are they related to retirement plans,
broadening your scope for a chance at more part-time jobs?
How do you feel about these changes? Are they fun, or rewarding, and
does acquisitions help you in them? Do they bolster your importance to
your institution, and make you better known, ie. coming out from behind
the scenes?
I have had a mixture of the experiences mentioned above. If you wish to
remain anonymous in print your wishes will be respectfully honored. If
you wish your ideas to be added to a general essay I shall write without
specific mention that is possible too.
Please contact me directly by email, snail mail, or by phone. All are
welcome (As the little lady Tangina said in Poltergeist).
Many thanks.

If you mail something call and let me know to be looking for it or just
leave a voicemail. Like all acquisitions and serials librarians I get a
huge amount of mail.
