As a university library, you may want to have some of your professors take a look at the collection before investing in replacing, cataloging and processing these items. Also, we have found our professors prefer VHS cassettes for showing film clips in class since they can move quickly from one cassette to another without having to search out the correct place on each new DVD selection.

Subject: [ACQNET-L] Upgrading AV Collection

Dear Acqnet Colleagues,

My university library is in the process of upgrading a recently acquired 8000 piece AV collection. We want to replace many of these worn, or damaged, or outdated materials to new electronic formats. (e.g. videos to DVDs.) We are also investigating vendor-supplied services at point of ordering such as physical processing and cataloging.

I would appreciate hearing words of advice from those who may have already done a project such as this, or vendors who can provide not only the materials but also the processing and cataloging for AV items. If it's long and involved, I'll be happy to phone you.

Thanks in advance,

Best ,
