Dear Leila and Victor,
We at Kelvin Smith Library, Case Western Reserve University used Touzot in
the ancient past - over 20 years ago - I was not here then. We haved used
Aux Amateurs de Livres Internationale, located in Paris all the time since.
They do a stellar job of supplying French books to us. They do issue
approval slips in areas that you pre-select. We get the slips here and divy
them up by collection manager - I do Modern Languages and Art History so I
also use them the most. Other methods are available but this works for us.
They can do a book approval plan with automatic shipments as well, but not
cataloging and preprocessing. We use them exclusively to firm order French
books. I'm pretty sure they could acquire children's books for you as
well. They also are good at handling out of print French books.
Gilles de la Rochefoucauld, the company president, is probably the best
person to start with. I visited them a few years ago in Paris and was
impressed with all the employees and the operation. (If you go to Paris you
might stop by. There is a terrific up-close view of the Eiffel Tower from
their offices.)
Cassalini Libri, known as an Italian vendor, can also supply Spanish books
from Spain, not Latin America, as well as French books. They also do an
excellent job.
We have an approval plan with them for automatic shipments of books in well
defined subject areas - Italian, Spanish and French. We also get online
form type information. We get cataloging and some processing with the books
as well which is very helpful. We haven't asked for children's books from
them but I imagine they could supply them.
Either Colleen Campbell or Joachim Bartz are the people to contact to start
up an account.
If you want any more information on the subject of foreign vendors, please
feel free to contact me.
Best regards,
Arlene Moore Sievers-Hill
