Subject: RE - Acquisitions and ILL partnerships
Hello,
When I worked at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and later
Georgetown University, I implemented
Acquisitions/ILL programs. The UW Madison program was documented in two
articles listed below.
Suzanne Ward of Purdue University has been a leader in this area.
Suzanne's e-mail address is: ward_at_purdue.edu
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Karl

Good morning
We are thinking about instituting this process and I wonder if any of you
use Alibris as your vendor. I talked with our Alibris vendor rep and
their process
sounded like it might work for us.

Sue

Subject: ILL partnerships - thanks and brief summary
Hi there - I received an overwhelming response to my question about
Acquisitions and ILL partnerships. Thank you to everyone who took the
time to respond.
For those who requested a summary of responses, I will have to be brief
considering the volume. The gist was that all requests were vetted by
ILL staff who determined the level of appropriateness for purchase by
either common sense and intuition, or a rigid set of guidelines. The
guidelines were mainly comprised of things like availability, currency
and cost. "Winners" were then passed onto the Acquisitions department
where they were placed on rush order and went to the patron with limited
processing (i.e. not fully processed until returned by the patron). The
main theme that I noted was that the actual number of purchases to
replace the ILL request were very low.
What I took away from the summation was that this won't save a whole lot
of time in the ILL department. This does not make it unworthy of
implementation, and I believe that my institution will most certainly
try our own version, however, at the end of the day, this is not going
to drastically change any workload issues. Which is what I was hoping
for!!
Thanks again, all!
