We do. It's still in pilot (started Feb) and we haven't met to evaluate
it yet, but we got started a little later than
intended. So far it seems ok, we did 114 from Jan-June 2007 and 49 since
July 1. We use Horizon ILS and
get the requests from ILL via e-mail. Let me know if you actually want
to see our written procedures -
I didn't want to do an attachment to the list.

Our ILL department is rather small, so if it is an item that is
requested often or appears to be of interest to our collection (which is
mainly military and history works) our ILL technician brings me a copy
of the request. I determine if it is appropriate for the collection and
if it is I proceed with attempts to acquire it.

The University of Iowa Libraries routinely purchase books requested via
ILL, assuming that their content is appropriate for our collections
(most pass muster,) that the item is readily available, and that the
price is under $75. It tends to be a small number; only 29 so far this
fiscal year (July 1 - date).

Our ILL office has a firm order book fund specifically to
purchase items that are either not available via ILL, that would be
cheaper to purchase, or that we would want to have for our
collections. The requests are entered into our III system by the
ILL staff, who can enter notes about who they are needed for. Then
the requests are turned into official purchase orders by Acquisition
staff and the items are rush ordered and processed. This fits into
our regular rush workflow, so there are no separate procedures. It
isn't used that often, but it appears to work well.

Hi there,

I am hoping to hear from institutions that have set up partnerships
between their ILL and Acquisitions department to purchase books that
come in on request via ILL. We are looking at setting this up in my
library, but would like to see what other procedures and policies have
been created where this is already in place.

Thanks!
