Subject: Projections for the future
Hi,
I have a question regarding how requests for new subscriptions are
handled in your libraries.
At UTC we have endured a long period in which we have received no budget
increases or budget
increases insufficient to cover inflationary cost increases for
subscriptions. As a result we have
had a long-standing policy of no new subscriptions unless the requesting
department offered up a
title of comparable cost in their discipline they wished to cancel. As
you might imagine, this has
kept requests for new journal subscriptions to a minimum. We would like
to move away from this
approach.
My question to those of you in the same situation as we find ourselves
is how you handle new
journal requests. Do you have a similar drop-add policy? Do you accept
requests but require a
written request with justification for the new title and other
documentation? Does anyone have
any recommendations on how we should proceed?
As always, please respond directly to me. Thanks for your consideration
Michael
