Subject: A question from an independent publisher
Dear Folks,
I'm an independent publisher who's been a long-time "lurker" on this
list. I'm hoping you can help me out on the following:
How would you suggest an independent press let acquisitions librarians
know about new titles? We already do Publishers
Marketing Association mailings, exhibit our books at ALA shows, and work
with many wholesalers and jobbers (Baker & Taylor,
Brodart, Coutts, Ingram, Midwest Library Service, Follett, Emery-Pratt,
Quality, Unique, etc.). Our titles are accurately listed
with BIP and other agencies, have CIP datablocks, and are sent in to the
Wilson Cumulative Index. We send review copies to
Library Journal, CHOICE, Kirkus, School Library Journal, and other
review publications, as appropriate for the genre.
What publications do you read? Are there blogs or e-zines you find
particularly valuable? Do you like the PMA mailings?
How do they compare to mailings from EBSCO, Florida Academic Press,
Baker & Taylor catalogs, and so forth?
Many thanks for your time, consideration, and suggestions.
Best,
Cynthia Frank
