Subject: "Orphan" e-resources
I am sending the following request to both Colldv-L and Acqnet-L with
the hope of a response from a wider group and regret any inconveniece
caused.
For some time we have been purchasing individual electronic resources
such as e-books or electronic files. As these are not purchased through
aggregators we do not have any management or retrieval system in place
for them. Until now we have not purchased much of these materials, but
as we purchase more, the need to manage them is becoming more pressing.
We'd be keen to hear how other libraries manage these kinds of "orphan"
resources. We would like to be able to manage access to the files so
that we can:
- get usage stats,
- limit access to bona fide users (and limit the number of simultaneous
users if that is a condition of the licence) if necessary,
- make the full-text of the documents searchable if possible.
We'd like to hear about other libraries' experiences with these kinds of
materials, especially and what the fishhooks are as well.
Thank you
Gita
