Well, it would help if I included the posting! See below ...

Hi folks,
Trying to catch up on ACQNET before leaving for Midwinter!
I need advice on the following posting. I think it's a perfectly legit
question, and I certainly do not want
to discourage publishers from posting good questions, but I want to edit
the example somewhat or leave
it out entirely as it seems like a surreptious plug for the book. Help
me out here!

Thanks,
Eleanor

publisher question on CIP

Dear Folks,

I'm a publisher who's been "lurking" on this wonderful and helpful list
for several years. I'm hoping you can recommend a resource book, manual
or URL so that my publishing company can more easily fill out the CIP
forms on the Library of Congress web site. The problem area is the
Subject section. The categories offered seem quite limited and don't
always clearly describe our titles.

For instance, what category should we use for Maggie Watson's A Graceful
Farewell: Putting Your Affairs in Order (Summer 2006, Cypress House)?
The book guides the reader through choices about where to live one's
last years, and how to plan funerals, cremation, and memorial services,
and brings together all the information loved ones and executors will
need: how to provide clear instructions to ensure one's wishes are
carried out, how to avoid bad feelings among family members; help plan
one's own memorial service. There's a special section for the
self-employed and small business owners on taxes and licensing,
employees and liability issues; a resource list, and other supplemental
materials.

The last ALA I attended, I noticed that the ALA Store had a wonderful
assortment of resource books. Is there a monograph or handbook that you
would recommend regarding the Subject Categories that would assist our
forms manager? (We have no problems with BISAC codes; those are easy!)

Many thanks for your ideas and guidance,

Cynthia Frank
