Subject: Request for information on the use of Print-on-Demand in
Libraries (Responses)
A few weeks ago I requested information on the use of print-on-demand in
libraries. I received
two responses. A public library in Texas purchases some print-on-demand
items for their collections.
The cataloger responding to my request noted they were on a variety of
topics -- genealogy, job
search, fiction and usually published by University Microfilms. She also
commented that they
were quite costly. The second response concerned the University of
Pittsburgh Digital Research
Library. It provides a printing service of digitized books through a
partnership with Brookhaven Press.
Facsimile reproduction of titles from Historic Pittsburgh and 19th
Century Schoolbooks web sites are
available at http://digital.library.pitt.edu/abouthp/order.html and
http://www.brookhavenpress.com/19page.htm.
I did, however, discover more information by contacting various
academic presses, digital initiatives,
and university librarians. The article [I have authored] is currently
under review for publication. I'll be
happy to share publication information, if it is accepted, with anyone
interested.
Thanks again.
