Subject: Scanning Invoices and Linking within ILS?
Hi all,
Katherine Treptow Farrell and Janet E. Lute had an interesting article
in the September 2005 issue of Information Technology and Libraries
which described their implementation of document management
technology (DMT) to scan and store invoices in a database (as opposed
to a paper file). It sounds really cool and I know a lot of businesses
are doing this.
My question is, has anyone discussed this sort of thing with their ILS
vendors? The article basically describes a process where a separate
database (via OnBase) was used to store the invoices. Wouldn't it be
nice to be able to scan and store the invoices in the ILS (in a field
of the invoice record, for example). Imagine being in an acquisitions
module and being able to look at a PDF of an invoice simply by clicking
on the invoice number...
