Subject: Cover price question

Dear Librarians,

I've been a "lurker" on this list for a couple of years, and have tried to
use some of the wealth of your knowledge to improve the editorial and
production values of our books, and to better understand how we can get the
word out to librarians on our titles. Here's a quick question for you.
Many thanks in advance for your feedback:

Are you seeing price increases in the cover prices of spring and summer 2005
release books from the larger publishers?

We'll be releasing a maritime history book in the early summer. Paperback,
344 pages, highly researched, nice blurbs from historians coming in already,
foreword by a maritime historian soon to come in, index, appendices, lots of
b/w photos, the whole nine yards. So, my original pricing was $18.95. Now,
however, I'm looking at increases in printing (paper) and freight
(surcharges) and shipping (UPS, FedEx and USPS), and am wondering if the
book world could handle $19.95 for this book. Any wise words?

Many thanks,
Cynthia Frank
