Subject: Another Business Directory scam

I have been getting voice mails and calls from a company called N.B.
Datatech (National Business Datatech) trying to persuade me to pay an
invoice for around $400 for publications they describe as a "database
directory" and an "online web listing." The individual calling is
insistent on payment yet will not give a direct answer when I ask him
when and how the material was sent. He claims that one of our
bibliographers "authorized payment by telephone" and that he recorded
the conversation with the bibliographer. The bibliographer in question
has no memory of this alleged "authorization" and it would not be within
our accepted procedures to "authorize" any sort of payment without an
official purchase order number.
Perhaps he is just a hard-core salesman but I am getting more suspicious
with each phone call. Has anyone out there had experience with this
company? The phone calls are coming from Quebec, Canada but their
invoice has an address in Edison, NJ. They have a website at
www.nbdatatech.com.
I would appreciate any input others might have. I certainly hesitate to
prepay for anything from this company.
