Subject: RE: History book budget allocation

Hi Tony,

At the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga we allocate $124,600 to
academic departments for the one-time purchase of materials. We
allocate 6% of that total to the History Department. They receive the
largest slice of the book "pie" given any single department for
historical reasons. The History Department has traditionally had a
prominent position on campus, and long ago when the allocation formula
was being applied, they indicated they wanted a larger portion of their
budget in books, rather than serials. Other departments asked to be
adjusted in the opposite manner.

We are a public, mid-sized institution part of a multi-campus university
system.
