It has been several years since I prepaid any invoices with Gale Group,
so my experience may no longer be typical or relevant. We had a real
problem with items on backorder. When the backordered items were
shipped, they were also billed, even though we had prepaid. It took a lot
of time on the phone to clear up all the messes, and to have the
prepayments reflected on the backordered items to straighten out the
account. I would need a lot of assurance from Gale that their methods
of billing have improved before I would do anything like this again.

Just a little input regarding the Gale Proformas. We
have been using this method for a little over a year
now. It is definetly cost effective. I would suggest
that you make sure your prepayment is to them prior
to the expiration of your previous proforma. We pay
ours on a 6 month basis. Our Proforma invoice was
received in January - our check was received in
their office in February. I am still trying to have
our account updated. From now on I will insist that
they send me a Proforma invoice 2 months prior to the
renewal to avoid any overlap.
If you have any other questions, feel free to call me

This is something we did last year, and it's a good idea, especially for
eliminating shipping charges, which are outrageous otherwise. BUT, be
sure you have a single real-person to contact, because for a while the
targeted pre-paid s.o. shipments were being accompanied by the usual
individual invoices, and we had to get them taken off Gale's books every
time! Be sure that for every Fiscal Year the Proforma Invoice gets issued
right away!

We have used this for years. You do have to check to be sure all titles
actually arrive but we rarely have any problems. It certainly saves in
time,
shipping, and the cost of writing the check. (Our government agency
charges us for each check they write!)
