Subject: RE: Jobbers from the publishers end
Small publishers can be evaluated for addition to approval
plans by contacting individual jobbers, presenting them with
a catalog and summary of terms of sale. It is usually helpful
to know such things as whether the publisher participates in
LC's CIP program. From that, each jobber can evaluate how
appropriate and cost-effective it would be to add that press
to their approval plan.
Standing orders and monographs are really more a matter of
selling titles to libraries, from which orders will flow to jobbers.
Adding new monographs or series to jobber databases won't,
in and of itself, generate business for a new publisher. It will
simply make it easier to process those orders, should libraries
decide to obtain those titles and place the corresponding orders
with a jobber.
