Subject: RE - MDSC Publishing & other business directory scams
[Ed. note: ACQNET-L has many threads pertaining to business directory
scams
and they are all available in our Archives, which are freely available
at:
http://www.infomotions.com/serials/acqnet/
There is a link to this on AcqWeb:

One thing which would be good is if the list of known scam publishers
which
was published on this list some time ago were available again (I'll
admit
to not having searched the archives so I don't know if it's there). In
the
meantime, my library was sent a card some time ago from a publisher of
education and employment law (advertising itself as being 'formerly'
another publisher) informing us that they would send the newest edition
of a
volume of a series (and we don't have the particular series mentioned)
unless we
returned a card saying we didn't want this particular volume. While this
is
not as egregious as sending unsolicited materials to libraries, it runs,
in
my mind, a very close second. I was wondering if anyone else has met up
with this and how it was handled.
