Hi,
We are in a situation where we need to find a couple of book
jobbers
who could provide us with either out of print material, or material that
is
not offered through the usual suspects (Baker & Taylor, Ingram, etc.).
We already use Midwest Library Services, Book House and Ambassador.
Does anyone know of any others out there?

Aside from the online O/P sites (Alibris, Advanced Book Exchange
(ABE), Bookfinders), for anything I can't find, we use G.J. Rausch,

We do a fair amount of op-orders with Alibris http://www.alibris.com/,
and they've been a help with some hard-to-find orders as well. We've
found them to be quite convenient, especially as we've been doing some
retrospective collection development with grant purchases.
On occasion, we have looked also at Powell's http://www.powells.com/,
which has a strong history in the used/rare book market. We may start
using them more as well.

Here at Harvard U., Grad. School of Ed., Gutman Library, I have 2 very
reliable online OUT OF PRINT VENDORS: ALIBRIS and the O/P section of
AMAZON. CAN'T RECOMMEND THEM TOO HIGHLY. They accept our university
Purchasing Card (MasterCard), are very good with updates and have a wide
network of sources.

name, Academic's absorption into Blackwell will be total as of Jan. 1

Hi-
Our library searches for out of print books daily. These are my
recommendations:
1. Alibris (takes purchase orders, but charge a premium for this--if you
need them faster/cheaper & have a credit card, use the public version of
their
site, not the library version).
2. http://www.bookfinder.com (searches multiple out of print sites like
Alibris/Amazon/Abebooks).
3. For recent out of print books (or out of stock), try Barnes and Noble
http://www.bn.com (If it says in stock ships in 24 hours, they have it
somewhere. They also can take purchase orders...but their agreement
doesn't meet my accountant's approval).
4. Abebooks.com--Bookfinder searches this site, but it also has a nice
feature where you can email the seller and ask specific questions about
a
particular item. Most dealers on Abe appear to be professional book
dealers,
often with stores. We have had good luck contacting them directly, and
asking if they will accept purchase orders, etc.
We have several nice out of print shops in our city, and one of the
dealers
Told me they now sell over half their books on the web. Act quickly if
you
see something you want.
