We have had very good luck using ABE Books (American Book Exchange)for out
of print books. We can contact the vendor directly and they will almost
always accept a purchase order.
They also have a UK site that you can check for really hard to find things.

Our library uses ABElibrary.com quite a bit. They accept
purchase orders.

 Deborah,

We have been using ABELibrary. The prices are lower than Alibris, and
they drop-ship directly from the vendor, cutting down on delivery time.
They allow Purchase Orders. The address is www.abelibrary.com. They do
have us on a pretty low credit limit, but they are able to fill a large
number of our OP orders.

I've been using Abe Library for about 2 years and like their service. Fill
rate is OK, and they bill us like our book distributor. If a book is not
available you know in 24 hours and not charged. I've been very pleased with
conditions of books being as described by the used book stores.

I have worked with Michael Hackenberg for about 20 years and recommend
him without reservation. Michael is a true scholarly bookseller with a
Ph.D. (Library Science) from UC Berkeley. If he can't find a book for
you, I wonder if anyone can. We have a standing agreement with him to
automatically ship if the book is less than $50 and a quote if above. He
takes credit card payments, is extremely efficient, and a pleasure to
work with.

We have had some luck with Powells.com. You can set up an account with
them and their website shows their stock. Some books are used and some
are new. We have also set up a corporate account with Barnes and it
works a lot better than with amazon.com! They are more flexible and you
can speak with the same customer rep every time. We use amazon, and
although it is a MAJOR headache sometimes, it sometimes is the only place
we can find titles. Hope that helps!

Midwest Library Service has an out of print search service, and
they accept purchase orders. Their fill rate isn't perfect by
far, but it is an option.

Here we use Blackwell's OP service. In my last job, at a small college,
I searched OP titles on ABEbooks.com and went directly to the dealers.
It ended up that there were a few dealers that we used regularly, who
seemed to have a good stock that matched our usual needs. This was a bit
more time-consuming, but I think it saved money to cut out the middleman,
and it was very fast. Some require prepayment, but some are getting savvy
enough that they will accept purchase orders from colleges.

I frequently use AddAll (http://www.addall.com/) for personal
out-of-print searches. It is a meta-search engine that searches
several other used/out-of-print/antiquarian sites and tabulates
the results for you. Some duplication, obviously, but it does
give you a nice cross-comparison on pricing and condition. They
also have a search feature that compares pricing on in-print titles.

All,

We're looking for another vendor for OP titles. We presently use
Alibris but sometimes they don't have a title, or the cost is
prohibitive.
Is anyone using someone else that allows for purchase orders
instead of a credit card? We cannot use Amazon because of the 30 day
payment limit.
